Sunday 24th April the Moutere Artisans open their doors from 10am until 4pm
for Moutere Artisans Autumn Open Day 2022.
Please follow applicable Covid-19 protocols at each location. Please be patient and kind. We’re all smiling under our masks!
On Sunday April 24th 2022 the Moutere Artisans invite you to their village to experience really, really, nice stuff.
This now bi-annual event brings people from all over the province to taste the new olive oil, the new release wines, to experience some of the country’s finest cheeses and talk to talented artists – people who make baskets, sculpture, jewellery and ceramics. It is a superb day out.
The artisans work together to celebrate life in one of the most picturesque villages in the country.
After absolutely amazing attendance over the last couple of years we have decided to hold a second annual open day in Autumn. This year the date is 24th April.
The Moutere Hills Community Centre will be functioning as a central information and facilities hub for the event. All the artisans will be operating from their own home locations as per normal.
At the MHCC you will find maps, parking, information signboards, toilet facilities & water. Visit the Hub, meet up with friends, and plan your fantastic day out!
To help ease congestion, consider carpooling with friends or family to make the day an even more social occasion! Carpool parking available at the Moutere Hills Community Centre and Neudorf Black (92 Neudorf Road)
Upper Moutere is home to New Zealand’s oldest pub – The Moutere Inn (171 years young!).
Stacey Whale – a trained jeweler creating exquisite pieces in gold and silver is working at her studio located in the Old Post Office, and is open Labour Weekend. On the edge of the village North Eatery at Heaphy Vineyards are serving delicious sourdough pizza.
Onto Neudorf Road.
First, you will come across Neudorf Black – producers of black garlic puree and essence and other Black Garlic inspired goodies – unique, natural and packed with flavour. Further up Neudorf Road you will find Thorvald Cheese. Talk with the cheesemaker and taste some sheep and cow’s milk cheese.
Michael MacMillan is a gallery offering so much – bronze sculpture, French oak homeware, photography, and coffee!
Further up the road is the Sausage Press Deli Co. – makers of delicacies like pork and fennel sausages, salami, and smoked duck.
So much glorious wine comes from the Moutere.
Sitting on top of the ridge at Flaxmore Vineyards you can visit their gallery, walk around the vineyard and enjoy the view across to the mountains while trying their wines. Gravity Winery Cellar Door & Gallery is also open with great wines, tasting platters and a gallery featuring local artists. At Neudorf Vineyards you can experience library wines matched with local cheese in a gorgeous setting.
It’s a really, really interesting day in the country and a perfect way to mark the changing of the seasons. Visit the Artisans from 10 am until 4 pm.
